Glad @patrickc is exploring the Chinese podcast scene. My 2 cents: the chinese podcast landscape is dominated by first-tier city elites and western-educated voices. There are unique shows—feminist podcasts, knowledge-based ones, business/tech—but structurally they mirror western counterparts, with less “Chineseness” than curious outsiders expect. In tech, many founders (e.g. Liang Wenfeng) keep a low profile and rarely join podcasts. If a show covers tech, it’s usually about the US scene. the big US misconception: that China’s tech world runs on totally different concerns, language, or logic. Yes, because founders must navigate a more hostile, state-controlled environment. No, because at heart, Chinese and US entrepreneurs are strikingly similar.
