A sceptic though I may be of Tooze Thought post-Crashed, I do agree with him on the geopolitical destabilisation resulting from relatively populous countries becoming rich(er) in per capita income terms. Seems obvious if the country is China, but probably applies to any 100 million+ country, certainly if you judged by the Japan-hysteria of the 1980s.
