No one seems to have noticed that Gavin Wright started his Tawney Lecture by stating it’s bloody obvious that slavery mightily contributed to the British industrial revolution only then to turn around & argue, not so fast on the American industrial revolution, even though his argument about the USA is much more theoretical / speculative
