I built my dream office in the forest behind my home. Art studio, workspace, podcast set, library, lounge, kitchen, bathroom, sleeping loft - all in one! It took 4 months to build, start to finish. Want to see inside the nook? 🧵

After working out of my living room on an ipad for 3 yrs while building @liveoaklake, it felt time for an office upgrade. Started by clearing a 3 acre thicket of briars behind our house. Unbelievably dense. Then I spent a week sketching up plans, blending simplicity w nature.

It was a grind, but in just 4 months we pulled it off! You should’ve seen the piles of stuff I’d ordered and the unpacking. So much work. So much fun…

The finished product is one of a kind. Local burned cedar siding, white oak trim and interiors, and Texas limestone tying everything together. Japan meets Scandinavia meets Texas.

The desk can handle everything you'd ever need a desk to handle. There's even a pro video + podcast setup in that cabinet above the computer (thanks to some help from my tech-genius/friend @andrewtaylor_x) In 60 seconds...

I can have lighting, mic and camera behind a teleprompter. This way I can look people right in the eye, with plenty of screens for notes. Depending on time of day, I can easily adjust lighting. (excuse the silly screenshot - just wanted to demo camera view from a call)

But as soon as I'm done, I fold it up into the cabinet and close the door. Clean, pristine, clutter-free again. Deep work mode activated.

Just like the The Nook combines styles, it combines functions: equal parts office, art studio and guest quarters. There's a sleeping loft upstairs, and a full bathroom downstairs.

Helen and I both play piano, and I draw & paint. So we have a room for this stuff downstairs. The huge windows and skylight are perfect for painting, but everything has electric shades if needed.

Every single detail has been meticulously crafted, optimizing the space for function, form, and efficiency. And it’s even designed to be moved (short distances).
