As a child care guy, I don't think people have a very good picture of where most young children actually ARE on a given day -- as this data from a survey of 500 South Carolina families reinforces, unless you're high-income, it's probably not a child care center. HOWEVER, just as importantly, affordability actually outweighs personal preference in what care options parents are choosing, so there's also clearly some gap between the care being used and care that is preferred. (Child care is a land of contrasts?)
