🇨🇳China Weighs Yuan-Backed Stablecoins in Push for Global Currency Adoption China is considering allowing the use of yuan-backed stablecoins for the first time as part of efforts to expand the international role of its currency, according to people familiar with the matter. The move would represent a major shift from Beijing’s previous stance on digital assets. The State Council, China’s cabinet, is expected to review and potentially approve a roadmap later this month to accelerate global adoption of the yuan and narrow the gap with U.S. progress on stablecoins. The plan is expected to set usage targets for the currency in global markets, clarify the responsibilities of domestic regulators, and establish risk-prevention guidelines, the people said. Senior leadership is also scheduled to hold a study session by the end of the month on yuan internationalization and the role of stablecoins, which are gaining traction worldwide. At that meeting, top officials are likely to deliver remarks defining the tone, boundaries, and business applications for stablecoin development, one source said.
