I believe @OPLabsPBC was forced to un-deprecate OPStack support for Custom Gas Tokens in order to be eligible for submitting a proposal to the @Ronin_Network. This is a feature they removed from the OPStack earlier this year (the deprecation notice is still on their docs) and I guess now regret doing so. Meanwhile: @arbitrum has always had custom gas token support & will continue to improve upon it, among many other features like Native Mint/Burn coming in the next ArbOS release.
