There’s nothing in Cormac McCarthy’s novel about feminism. There’s no mention of things going bad when “women began to live independently from men.” I’ve been teaching the novel for twenty years and the passage you’re referencing doesn’t exist.
as I recall from the novel "No Country for Old Men," which may differ from the movie, it is stated that things began to go wrong in the US culminating with the senseless serial killings so lovingly detailed in the novel, when women began to live independently of men, no longer subservient to husband & family; when "feminists" appeared in our midst.
when I reached that part of the novel I probably dropped the book in shock, then picked it up again & gamely continued to the end.
feminists certainly need to have a sense of humor & it's better to laugh than to cry.
