OpenAI’s recent OSS model release feels like open-source theater. Real open source means giving everyone access to state-of-the-art models, not 3-stages-behind versions. Anything less is just marketing. We saw this in crypto — big centralized players and many DAOs played the decentralization theater. Now, with President Trump’s AI Action Plan pushing “open-source & open-weight” as strategic tools, expect the same gameplay in AI. Big hopes on @elonmusk — perhaps he will open source his top-of-the-league models, ’cause well, he's the only one who can do it even though it might be financially suboptimal.
