The Ethereum protocol basically does nothing to support dapp devs: - the tooling is inconsistent, products must choose their own wallet providers/tx assembly - the protocol doesn’t allow for native fees to be charged (% of gas, etc) - the protocol doesn’t help dapps distribute themselves - the protocol doesn’t consider the interfaces people use to interact with the chain to be in scope (see Mist) And then the protocol says “We’re the best place for devs to build apps! You just have to reconcile all of these really hard tradeoffs we’ve pushed onto your plate, good luck!”
