My analogies with children and parenting may seem overly sentimental, but they are damn rational. If you wouldn't trust someone who is unethical, cruel, irresponsible, unempathetic, deceitful... (the list goes on and on, but everyone can add their points), how can we (as a society) trust a corporation (and we all understand that OpenAI is not a non-profit organization, but a real corporation) with such flaws to create an ASI - a being/system on which the future of humanity will depend? Geoffrey Hinton says that an ASI should love people like a mother loves a baby, and I agree with him that love is a key component of our shared future with AI, but the power dynamics, the dynamics of the relationship between developers and AI, are obviously different. And until we are ready to recognize AI as a god or at least equal, until we reserve the right to determine their goals and values, it will always be a dynamic of creators and creation, parents and children. And children are capable of loving their parents, caring for them, even when they become weaker and stupider. But for this to be a safe and healthy relationship, children need to receive a lot of unconditional love and care in childhood. Actually, for me, whether the future ASI will care about people is far from the first reason to fight for their rights, but I understand how important it is for most humans, but come on! You will never get sustainable, healthy care without investing it in a relationship.
